Crocidolite, more popularly known as blue asbestos and is a member of the Amphibole group. The needle-like structure of the crocidolite fibres makes them the strongest of all asbestos fibres. This same structure also renders crocidolite to have a high resistance to acids.
Blue Asbestos was used extensively in the manufacture of preformed thermal insulation, yarn and rope. Aside from preformed insulation, some crocidolite was also sprayed-on as an insulation material. This is common in commercial buildings.
Of the three types of asbestos, Crocidolite is known to be the most deadly because of its structure.
