Because there are several options for cladding, it’s normal for Western Australian home and building owners to be confused as to what material to use. However, since it’s also essential you get to choose the right one, we deem it necessary to offer you a comparison. In this case, we’re going to have PVC and tin cladding.

Before we proceed to the comparison, let’s talk a bit about PVC and tin cladding. PVC siding is also called vinyl cladding. It is made up of around 80 per cent PVC resin, and the rest are other chemical components. Tin cladding, as is it is generically called, actually refers to metal or steel cladding. There are two popular choices for metal cladding: corrugated steel and aluminium.

Where Do They Differ?

Cost: Initially, tin cladding may be more expensive than PVC cladding. After all, metals are getting more costly these days, while PVCs are produced synthetically. Yet in the long run the cost of maintenance for PVC outweighs tin.

Durability: When it comes to durability, however, metal cladding takes the lead. Though both can withstand harmful weather elements, metal cladding does it better. Contrary to what you might believe, metal cladding such as aluminium doesn’t easily corrode or rust, even if exposed to a very high level of salt water. It’s one of the reasons why it’s a preferred cladding for homes within the coastal areas. Although these days, there are many fantastic sheet metal variations with rust resistance and even stainless.

Environment Friendly: Metal cladding is deemed to be more environmentally friendly than PVC. Even though the latter can be recycled too, this can only be done with new PVCs. Studies reveal these materials actually secrete toxic fumes, which are harmful not only to humans but also to pets. Prolonged exposure to PVC may make you prone to respiratory illnesses.

Maintenance: Metal cladding is much easier to maintain. PVC may require upkeep at least once a year. Metal sheets are now designed to last a lifetime.
